Cley Distillery is an external distillery located in Rotterdam, founded in 2015 by Paul den Dulk and Maria Neves. They produce whisky and gin according to the Dutch distilling traditions from the 17th century, using only organic and locally sourced ingredients.
Cley's whisky range includes several varieties:
Single Malt Whisky: Triple distilled and matured in ex-bourbon barrels, followed by a finish in new, toasted American oak barrels. This results in a mild flavour with notes of oak, dried fruit, vanilla and creamy butterscotch.
Malt & Rye Whisky: A combination of barley malt and rye, co-fermented and distilled. This whisky is matured in bourbon barrels and finished in new American oak quarter casks, resulting in a spicy flavour with hints of brown bread, raisins, apricot, coconut and vanilla.
Cley Distillery works closely with local farmers in the Buijtenland of Rhoon for the purchase of grains, which is a powerful factor in the high quality and sustainability of their products.
To meet the potential demand, Cley is expanding to a larger distillery on the outskirts of Rhoon. This new location will include a retail store and tasting room and will allow them to significantly increase their production capacity.
Cley’s whiskies are praised for their quality and effort, despite their relatively young age. For example, the Cley Dutch Single Malt Cask Strength Whisky is described as creamy and layered, with flavours of orange, caramel and walnut. Moreover, this whisky won "best dutch single malt" at the world whisky awards in 2025!
