The Pioneers is an innovative new project by Berry Bros & Rudd in which they sought out the 10 most progressive distilleries in terms of sustainability. Each distillery has its own challenges and with them its own solutions. This series includes a bottling from Agitator in Sweden that lowers the air pressure in the kettle to reduce the need to heat the kettle, but Belgrove Distillery is also unique.
Belgrove Distillery was founded by Peter Bignell. This man assembled the stills himself and grows all the grain used himself. The distillery also has a partnership with the local snack bar, which donates the used frying oil to Belgrove so that it can be used to heat the boilers. The distillery is thus completely self-sufficient and that is certainly reflected in this special whisky.
On the nose notes of farmyard, rye, vanilla and popcorn emerge. On the palate, notes of peanut butter, salted caramel and burnt sugar. On the finish cloves, shortbread and cinnamon.
Neat.
